“..I’m an asshole?! I’m Mr. Agitator…”

Good evening.

We interrupt this regularly scheduled SouthSide On The Town blog entry for a very important message direct from Villains secret Chicago underground lair. Now, here is Eva Trixx, V Is For Villains official villain representative from the Department of Misinformation and Propaganda with tonight’s report…

Members of the Children of the Night around the world, this is Eva Trixx, the official villain representative for the Department of Misinformation and Propaganda – the official V Is For Villains news agency. This department, when deemed necessary, will report the local sightings of our fearless leader, Mr. Agitator, and his villainous sidekicks – Fallon Flynn, Vixen Voodoo and Lady Delirium …also known as V Is For Villains. Recently, this villainous horde were spotted in their finest costumes at Bottom Lounge in support of Tanzen;s album release show along with Contra, Sky Machine and Polarities. Yes, Children, it was glorious seeing our Villains leaders grace another venue’s stage hellbent to do one thing – rock another awesome exciting show. Besides secretly imposing world domination with their music influences (like Nine Inch Nails, Prodigy and Depeche Mode) backing this group, they certainly once again wowed the new Villains recruits as well as longtime Children of the Night members like Eva Trixx.

Of course, we at the Department of Misinformation and Propaganda wouldn’t expect anything less from this world renown, animie-con steampunk music group. V Is For Villains have traveled near and far spreading the message of stteampunk villainy, murder in the name of art and so much more while always performing a hot, intense villainous show. SO HOT that our fearless leader took the stage ripping his pants. And you know what that means – time for another steamy Mr. Agitator strip tease set within the Villains show. Oh my, there goes the infamous red tie tossed into the screaming crowd …off goes his signature top hat …long black coat …you get the general idea. However, it doesn’t compare to the first famous Mr. Agitator strip tease record at Fizz Bar, Children, when our leader stripped down to his black shorts! Ah, glorious times, if you weren’t there to witness it. Performing songs like Broken Doll, Everybody Hates Me, Evolve or Die and the fan favorite – Nine Inch Nails’ Closer, V Is For Villains rocked the stage amidst the bright sequenced lighting and smoky fog effect …rhythmic keyboard action and thrilling electric melody. It was clearly evident tonight’s motive was to “murder” us with their music villainy.

Not being one bit bias about our Villains and their shows, Children, however, after reporting on them since their early incarnation as Digital Mindy, each V Is For Villains show changes constantly whether its song lineup and or band member participant such as Nyghtshade on guitars with Fallon.  Each show performed is never the same yet always retaining the same high-powered energy, excitement and fun for all. We at the Department of Misinformation and Propaganda advise you take our word and attend the next V Is For Villains show or animie-con appearance near you. It would be treasonous if you don’t.

26 Feb 17 - Get Out (2017)

Get Out

A whack movie title but a bare-knuckle type of psycho-thriller written and directed by Jordan Peele. If "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" had this much stereotypical racial tension and innuendos packed into a near 2hr run-time, Sydney Portier wouldn't have that peaceful resolve at the end. However Get Out isn't that kind of movie. There are some racial jokes and stereotypes addressed within the movie as well as deep mind-bending hypnosis in which had this reviewer clawing at the armrest of her theatre seat and freakish psycho-horror that totally jumps at you towards the end.

This movie is about an interracial - the guy named Chris and the girl named Rose who travel to a very secluded suburb to visit her parents for the weekend. Did SouthSide mention the parents live in a very secluded backwoods suburb where everything and everyone is NOT what they seem to be. Things seem to be out of place especially since there aren't any Black people in this community except those who are employed by Rose's parents. And even they seem to be acting weird to Chris. As the movie progresses, you instantly get the sense there's a sinister motive behind everything Rose's parents say and do as well as their friends and neighbors within this secluded suburban community. Creepy isn't the word to describe what's happening throughout this movie, blogspot readers. There are plenty of OMG moments amidst some hysterical funnies that will definitely shock and awe to totally outrage you beautifully scripted within Get Out's plot line. SouthSide is willing to admit the deep hypnosis scenes did have a lasting effect on her psyche to the point she actually "feel" herself sink within her inner conscious thus losing a bit of her persona.

To say Jordan Peele wrote and directed a very good horrifying racially intense movie is a gross understatement. It's THE best movie of 2017 ...and the movie year just began. He took the common stereotypes about the "Black experience" to interracial dating twisting them around to expose everyone's deepest and darkest thoughts about one another. We all have them whether it's within our own race or towards another at one point of our life we've heard something mythical or untrue about that racial group. In SouthSide's experience, she's heard the wildest things about Black women and sex from White men who never dated a Black women before. Yet, they thought what they heard was the absolute truth. Not entirely true, blogspot readers, though SouthSide does not speak for every Black woman. However, you do understand the point she's making. Get Out despite its deeply intensifying subject matter will get you talking about the hows and whys of this movie like why people are afraid of the Black superiority and experience. It certainly gives you a lot to discuss rationally as to why there's such a division between White and Black yet it's one movie that will you having deep discussions with your White friends, etc.

A powerful yet frightening movie ...this reviewer highly recommends seeing Get Out not just once but a couple or few times.

“…if we play any more, it would be Bile songs…” ~ Mura

“…what?! Go home…” ~ Mura

Hey, blogspot readers, guess who’s back? It’s SouthSide! And after a long hiatus away from spending her nights in endless adventures roaming around the local scene, she’s back checking out what’s happening and meeting new bands and fans. Oh yeah …she’s back to snacking on black licorice too with her friend, DJ Peter Propaganda!

Since it was a holiday, toady’s adventure took her to Irving Park neighborhood for Krztoff Bile’s BBQ and Nightmare Before Krztoff show featuring free hot dogs and Aviatrix On Fire opening with Peter Propaganda spinning everyone’s favorites before, in between and after the show. His unique collection of tunes ranging from rarely heard, B-sides and remixes of Goth to Industrial to Glitch Mob robotic sounds definitely put this afternoon/early evening bar patrons in the mood for tonight’s show. Ah, yes, Propaganda had us rockin’ to Rammstein …My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult and some smooth RB-mixed modern ambient groove by Underworld and so much more filled Live Wire just before being mesmerized by the haunting synpop performance of Aviatrix On Fire.

 Described as having “…a self-assured air of melancholy …smoky vocals …and solid resilient rhythms…” according to their Facebook page, this reviewer would like to add one more description – intensely haunting. It’s been a while since SouthSide was mesmerized by a electronic duo that sent spine-tingling chills down her music ears. Aviatrix On Fire did just that and more, blogspot readers. With the combination of Jax on vocals and dynamic stage presence and Joe on the dark, moody atmospheric rhythms, this local duo rocked the stage despite not having a darker lighting and smoke effect to truly highlight their opening performance. Yet, blogspot readers, that’s simply one or two minor things to give Aviatrix the vibe required for the audience to enjoy. Still, SouthSide had a fun time feeling the pain and heartache on the lyrics while under the melancholy tune. The music alone had a way to give the ears shivers but also a heart-pounding surprise especially during the concluding song which featured an upbeat dance sound. It was great knowing Aviatrix can diversify its sound though retaining that same intensity felt at the start of their set. SouthSide highly recommends checking out Aviatrix On Fire live when they share the stage with Mr. Kitty and The Rain Within at Burlington Bar on June 24th. Was it a “Nightmare Before Krztoff” or  “beautifully disheveled” aka Mura headlining the stage at Live Wire? Or was it a little of both from this duo? Read on to find out how this touring duo blew the stage with its fast-paced synpop performance, blogspot readers. One thing this reviewer will admit is there’s something quite unique about a band finding itself amidst a sudden re-organization …after many bottles of hot Sake. Seriously, Krztoff and Brendin as Mura certainly gave what this audience wanted Monday night – a show that featured a whole lot of sex appeal, energy and hardcore synpop. You could also say it was beautifully disheveled since this duo continuously surprised the ears from one minute to the next. And that’s what SouthSide enjoyed the most. It didn’t really matter where they would take her musically but what truly mattered was how intense each song projected with Brendin’s fierce combination of industrial/synpop and Krztoff’s raw vocals and commanding stage presence. It was a wicked twist down the rabbit hole with these guys to which one minute the audience was shocked with hardcore sound and the next, a lively dance beat …then there were moments when they combined to two and WOW …did it ever pack a solid punch, blogspot readers. Each heart-stopping synpop beat did help accentuate and sell Krztoff’s sex appeal as he struts …gyrates and more with microphone in hand and some smoke effect surrounding him. Yes, wither, ladies, it does get very hot in the venue throughout this Mura performance. However, the set didn’t simply end just there, blogspot readers. Turn the stage lights down a little more and add more smoke to the stage …intensify the music and up the energy volume to 11 with a bit a screamo in the vocal, soon it was an impromptu Bile show. After this Chicago show, who knows what beautifully disheveled performance Mura will do next for their fans, blogspot readers. Oh btw, Mura – “Nightmare Before Krztoff” was a very bad band idea …just saying. If you’re looking for something raw with lots of raw sex appeal and music to match that sets the stage ablaze amidst the smoky lights, then SouthSide highly recommends seeing her friends Brendin and Krztoff better known as Mura a their next show. The song lineup may change from show to show since they’re constantly writing new material while on the road. See them in Milwaukee this weekend when performing at Sanctuary Festival featuring former keyboard player of Ministry Darrell James! You can find Mura on their Facebook page.
